Sales Associate - Initial License
Pre-License Requirements - All applicants for an New York salesperson license must:
Successfully complete an approved sales pre-license real estate course of at least 45 hours.
Pass the end of course school exam with a grade of least 70%.
Contact Department of State to make a test appointment. The exam fee is $15. You will need to have 2 forms of id, two number 2 pencils. You must pass the New York state exam with a grade of at least 70%.
After successfully passing the state exam you will receive your results in the mail. You may then submit your application along with the proof of passing state exam and license fee of $50. You must have a sponsoring broker to apply for a license.
Pre-License Requirements – must have at least two years of experience as a licensed real estate salesperson
Successfully complete an approved broker pre-license real estate course of at least 120 hours.
Pass the end of course school exam with a grade of least 70%.

All salespersons and brokers must complete 22 1/2 hrs of CE each two year renewal cycle. Effective for renewals on or after July 1, 2008, the 22.5 hours must include at least three hours of instruction pertaining to fair housing and/or discrimination in the sale or rental of real property or an interest in real property.
